LEADERSHIP STYLES AS PREDICTORS OF DECISION MAKING STYLES AMONG TOP, MIDDLE AND LOWER MANAGERS

Abstract


The present study examined the role of transformational,transactional, and laissez-faire leadership style on prediction ofrational, intuitive, dependent, avoidant, and spontaneous decisionmaking style. Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire and GeneralDecision Making Style Questionnaire were administered on apurposive sample of 300 top, middle, and lower level bankmanagers. Multiple regression analysis demonstrated thattransformational leadership style positively predicted rational stylewhereas, negatively predicted dependent and avoidant styles.Transactional style positively predicted intuitive, dependent andavoidant style. Laissez-faire style positively predicted intuitive,dependent, and avoidant style and negatively predicted rationalstyle. Finally, Leadership styles displayed non-significant effect onspontaneous style. The study was grounded in theory and it hasboth theoretical value and applied significance in the moderncorporate sector.
