Try to update your internal toilet components from time to time. If you have to hold down the handle for a long time to flush your toilet, you may need to replace a worn piece. This improvement will help to save a lot of money on your water bill during the year.

When you have to take out the clean out plug, but it is not coming out, you can remove it using one of two ways. The first method involves a hammer and chisel to loosen the fitting. The only other option is to chisel right through the clean out plug.

To check for toilet leaks, especially if it seems like your toilet is chronically running, use a few drops of food coloring in the toilet tank. If water is leaking into the bowl, you will see color in about a half hour. Replacing tank parts can repair leaks and greatly save on water consumption.

When water pipes freeze, the damage can be extensive and costly. Fortunately, frozen pipes are easy to prevent. Start by insulating the outside pipes fully. Before winter, drain your hoses and disconnect your outdoor faucets. This will keep you from paying too much to your plumber.
